If your goal is primarily fat loss and not building new muscle mass (why I you would not want muscle is beyond me… only kidding) then performing cardiovascular activity before weight training will burn off lots of fat. I know a lot of the bodybuilding magazines tell you to do cardio after weight training but the goal in these cases is to be big and cut. What I’m talking about is placing fat loss as your primary goal and being okay with either maintaining muscle or building it slowly.
To do this, consider performing a 15-20 minute session of interval style cardio before you weight train. Intervals are basically high intensity phases such as running alternated with lower intensity phases such as walking. After you have performed this type of cardio work move onto your weight training which will allow you to continue burning body fat.
This method is highly potent and one I use with great success in my clients who’s primary goal is to get leaner.
