Surround yourself with people who support your endeavors. It can be often difficult to stick to a regiment of correct eating, intense training, and proper rest. Surrounding yourself with people who support you can lend a big boost to your resolve to stick to your program.
When ever I achieved my most outstanding results in strength, body, etc. it was always during times when I had a strong support team. This support team was made up of friends, family, and teachers who encouraged me to achieve my best.
Whenever I achieved a poor level of performance invariably I would be trying to do things all by myself and would crash. No man is an island we all need support.
When you assemble a powerful team of support make sure that you also support other members efforts, as my brother says " Steel sharpens Steel".
Here are a few suggestions:
- Exercise in a gym in which the atmosphere is rugged enough to support your efforts. This doesn't mean that you have to train in a powerlifting gym, but training in a spa like atmosphere will encourage spa like results. If you train at home make your training space motivational. Put inspiring photos on the walls, play music that gets you energized, keep a spot for a log book to record awesome workouts.
- Exercise with people who truly want you to succeed, this should be mutual. Select a workout partner who uplifts your efforts and offers constructive criticism also. Basically some one who encourages you to crank out 2 more reps on that exercise that you want to stop.
- Discuss your fitness goals only with people who support them. People who support your goals will be positive about them, those that don't won't be.
- Encourage others around you such as your friends and family to eat better by example. Former naysayers can become your biggest advocates.
- Don't be obsessive about what you are doing. Obsessive behavior will turn away all your sane support leaving only insane, anal retentive, obsessive people as your support group. It's okay to have that glass of beer or eat McDonalds sometimes it will probably make you look better; I will definitely make you more fun to be around.
- Don't be afraid to drop people who are unsupportive and downright mean. The bible says, " Bad associates spoil useful habits", I definitely concur.
- pat yourself on the back for progressive made. When you lift that extra weight, lose certain amount of fat, complete a day of great eating, reward yourself in a positive way by acknowledging your efforts. Reward yourself with something bigger such as a vacation, new clothes, or something else that you really want when you achieve a big goal. Rewarding yourself encourages repetition of positive behavior and makes negative behavior extinct.
